City of Cape Canaveral stormwater resilience infographic, utilizing CMCE Lightning Suppression technology.

The City of Cape Canaveral

Prior to installing the CMCE Lightning Suppression System, over several years, the City of Cape Canaveral experienced repeated lightning-related damage to critical municipal infrastructure, resulting in operational disruption, equipment damage, and significant insurance claims.

One of the most severe incidents occurred in Summer 2021, when lightning severely damaged the City’s Water Reclamation Facility (WRF), which is responsible for the treatment of all municipal wastewater.

The strike resulted in:
• Loss of telecommunications systems
• Failure of monitoring devices
• Damage to pumps
• Failure of the facility’s SCADA operating system
• Emergency operational staffing requirements

To maintain uninterrupted wastewater treatment services, City personnel were required to initiate 24-hour staffing operations for several days until systems could be stabilized and restored.

Following equipment replacement and system restoration, the total lightning-related insurance claim reached: $76,316

A subsequent lightning event at City Hall in March 2022 caused:
Additional infrastructure damage
Damage to employee personal vehicles
• Over
$7,000 in additional lightning-related insurance claims

L’Hermitage Condominium with high-rise towers showcasing the CMCE Lightning Suppression System installation

L'Hermitage Condominiums

L’Hermitage Condominiums, a premier luxury oceanfront 29 story high-rise community located on Fort Lauderdale’s Galt Mile, implemented a CMCE-120 Lightning Suppression System to help protect critical building infrastructure from lightning-related risk.

Like many South Florida coastal high-rises, the property faced elevated lightning exposure due to building height, rooftop mechanical systems, and increasing dependence on sensitive electrical infrastructure.

Encore Land & Sea one CMCE-120 at the highest rooftop point to eliminate lightning strike formation while integrating seamlessly with the building’s existing infrastructure.

The installation was completed with zero disruption to operations and provides a passive, low-maintenance layer of protection designed to support operational continuity, reduce risk exposure, and enhance long-term building resilience for this luxury coastal property.

St. Michael & All Angels Church showing the affects of the installation of the CMCE Lightning Suppression System

St. Michael & All angels episcopal church

St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, a historic landmark located on Sanibel Island, Florida, implemented a CMCE-120 Lightning Suppression System to help protect the church’s restored structure, historic bell tower, and critical electrical systems from lightning-related risk.

Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian and an extensive restoration effort completed in 2023, protecting the church from future environmental threats became a critical priority.

During the storm events surrounding the hurricane, the church experienced extensive damage due to lightning strikes.

Due to Florida’s extremely high lightning density and the church’s elevated architectural features, including its bell tower and cross, the property faced increased vulnerability to lightning activity.

Encore Land & Sea installed the CMCE-120 at the highest point of the church, to a dedicated tower housing the CMCE-120, to eliminate lightning strike formation while preserving the historic aesthetics of the property.

The passive system requires no external power source, integrates with the existing structure, and provides an approximate 363-foot protection radius designed to support long-term preservation, resilience, and operational continuity for this historic coastal landmark by eliminating the threat of lightning strike formation.

SHERWIN-WILLIAMS MANUfacturing facility

The Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky expanded its operations with new flammable chemical storage infrastructure and implemented a modern lightning protection strategy to support facility resilience and operational continuity.

To help protect critical manufacturing assets and storage tank areas, two CMCE-120 Lightning Suppression Systems were installed along with integrated grounding and bonding infrastructure. As a leading producer of liquid industrial coatings for the building and construction markets, Sherwin-Williams relies on advanced manufacturing systems and global distribution capabilities, making infrastructure protection a key priority.

This project highlights how modern lightning suppression technology can reduce lightning-related operational risk, protect flammable storage infrastructure, and support the reliability of critical industrial operations.

MCFADDIN-WARD HISTORIC HOUSE

The McFaddin-Ward House Museum in Beaumont, Texas, is a historic 12,800-square-foot Beaux-Arts Colonial Revival residence built between 1905 and 1906.

To protect this nationally significant landmark from lightning threats, two CMCE-120 Lightning Suppressors were installed to provide coverage across approximately 1 million square feet of museum grounds, buildings, and infrastructure.

Unlike traditional lightning protection systems that rely on extensive networks of lightning rods and conductors, CMCE Technology prevents lightning strikes from forming altogether.

The installation was carefully planned to preserve the property's historic character through strategic placement, minimal visual impact, and integration that avoided compromising the site's architectural integrity. The result is enhanced lightning protection that safeguards the museum's structures, systems, and assets while maintaining the beauty and aesthetics that make the property a treasured historic destination.

Flamingo Crossings Village

American Campus Communities selected CMCE Lightning Suppression Technology to protect Flamingo Crossings Village, a large student housing community serving Disney College Program participants in Davenport, Florida.

Located in one of the nation's most lightning-prone regions, the property required a superior solution to eliminate lightning-related risks across its residential buildings and critical infrastructure.

Six CMCE-120 Lightning Suppressors were installed across the East and West housing communities, providing protection for approximately 3,000,000 square feet. The system supports resident safety, operational continuity, and the protection of critical electrical, communications, HVAC, and building systems throughout the property.

Olympus Harbour Island high-rise in Tampa | Case Study

OLYMPUS HARBOUR ISLAND

Olympus Harbour Island, a luxury multifamily community managed by Olympus Property in Tampa, Florida, selected CMCE Lightning Suppression to help protect its apartment building and surrounding property from one of Florida's most persistent natural hazards—lightning. Located in one of the nation's most lightning-prone regions, the community required a proactive solution that would eliminate the risk of direct lightning strikes while supporting long-term property resilience.

To strengthen its lightning protection strategy, the property installed two CMCE-120 Lightning Suppressors, providing a superior layer of defense beyond conventional lightning rods. By neutralizing the atmospheric conditions that create lightning strikes, CMCE technology aligns with Olympus Property's commitment to protecting valuable assets, minimizing operational risk, and providing a reliable living environment for residents.

AVE Living Tampa Riverwalk

Located along the Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa, AVE Living Tampa Riverwalk is a luxury apartment community managed by AVE, a nationally recognized leader in luxury residential communities. Recognizing the elevated lightning risk in one of the most lightning-prone regions in the United States, the property partnered with Encore Land and Sea to enhance protection for its residents and critical infrastructure.

Encore installed one CMCE-120 Lightning Suppressor to protect approximately 500,000 square feet of the property, safeguarding rooftop equipment, electrical systems, and essential building operations. The installation provides proactive lightning protection that supports operational continuity while giving property ownership and management greater confidence during Florida's frequent thunderstorms.
